Shrek 4-D: The Ride

Hey everyone!

As I decided to start this blog mid-way through the trip, a few of these posts are going to be a bit out of order, chronologically, but let’s dive in with a ride review to kick off!

Ride type: 4D Motion Simulator

Ride opened: 2003

Top speed: N/A

Track length: N/A

Ride duration: 16 minutes

Fast Pass access: Yes

Where better to start than one of the first ‘rides’ you encounter when entering Universal Studios; Shrek 4-D.

Let’s look at the positives first:

Shrek 4-D opened two years after the first film, and just under a year before the second one, and it fits in well with the story.

The animation is what we’ve come to expect from the series, and the introduction in a themed ‘torture chamber’ delivered by one of the park entertainers is genuinely funny.

The queue also has some pretty interesting posters to read and TVs showing the best bits from the first movie.

Now onto the bad…

This ride is almost a relic in terms of where the technology has moved on to and really could do with updating, or replacing all together.

The story is old now, and has been released on multiple DVDs, shown on TV etc.

The moving cinema seats and puffs of air were cutting edge back in 2003,  but a spin on the Spider-Man or Transformers rides just shows you how old-hat it is now.

Amie said she thought Shrek 4-D is lucky it’s so close to the front of the park, as people probably just jump on it as it’s the first thing they see (we did exactly that), otherwise it might struggle, and I have to agree.

Jay’s Rating : 2/10

Amie’s Rating : 3/10

Summary: If you’ve got a fast pass and can get on this within 15-20 minutes it’s probably worth a go, otherwise, prioritise other rides first.
